Kazim Kazim: Germany Cheated
The Mannschaft triumphed in controversial fashion, holding off the dangerously resurgent Crescent Stars who looked set to steal their fourth consecutive comeback win.
Fatih Terim’s side had levelled the scores at 2-2, Semih Senturk again striking at the death, only to be given a dose of their own medicine as Philipp Lahm secured victory for Germany in the 90th minute.
The Bayern Munich man’s goal was staunchly protested by the Turks, as Joachim Low’s men had played on despite the fact Kazim-Richards was down injured.
And the London-born forward believes it was a cheap way to win, and hopes the German players will look back on the game and realise just that.
"I think they will be a bit upset with the goal that won the game for them," he said. "This whole tournament's been based around fair play, but that wasn't fair.
"We kicked the ball out for a few teams throughout the tournament and it would be nice for them to have done it. It's a bit upsetting as I was down. I'm not the sort of guy to go down if I'm not injured and as you saw I was subbed off."
Proud
The defeat ended Turkey’s amazing EURO run, which saw them come from behind to eliminate Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Croatia.
They may not have reached their ultimate goal, but Terim is nonetheless immensely proud of what his team have achieved despite horrible luck with injuries and suspension.
"We played the better football, even against Germany," he said. "But everybody could see how well we played.
"I'm very proud of my players because of the will and desire to play well they showed. Tactically and technically the spirit came together and shown the world what a good team we have.
"I said this to them in the dressing room, that I was proud of them. We are leaving as the most skilful team in the tournament. We were almost there but that's part of football."
No Blame
Goalkeeper Rustu Recber, the hero from Turkey's penalty shootout win over Croatia, became the villain when his gaff gifted Miroslav Klose the opportunity to score Germany’s second goal.
But Terim said: "These things happen, they can save penalties or concede goals like this. What's important is that when you play so well and concede like this it's not easy to come back. When consider team so young not easy to come back."
