Donovan To Train With Bayern Munich
LA Galaxy forward Landon Donovan has got his off-season to a quick start as it has been reported on Bayern Munich’s website that the 26-year-old is set to begin a 10-day training session with the Bundesliga champs.
"Landon I know from my time at the LA Galaxy," explained Munich boss Jürgen Klinsmann. "A fine guy, a very good footballer, and a great personality in American football. Landon is training with us for the next ten days to keep his his fitness in good standing."
It has been widely understood that Donovan desires a move back to Europe after another disappointing season in LA, and playing for Munich may be his first choice, given the good rapport he has with Klinsmann.
"I am pleased that Jürgen Klinsmann and Bayern are giving me this chance to get to know their new performance center and stay fit alongside their great international footballers," said Donovan of the opportunity.
Looking to improve on his prior stint in Europe, where he only made seven first team appearances for Bayern Leverkusen, the California native has dropped numerous hints about a potential move abroad when this MLS season concludes.
“I think competitively, mentally, physically, the way I am now, I'm approaching or in my prime,” said Donovan before the Galaxy’s last match on October 26th. “I want to have a chance at playing there. So I think this makes the right sense. This is the right time.”
Since joining the Galaxy in 2005, Donovan has made 96 appearances, scoring an impressive 52 goals over that stretch.
